Founded more than 30 years ago, Genentech is a leading biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures and commercializes medicines to treat patients with serious or life-threatening medical conditions. The company, a member of the Roche Group, has headquarters in South San Francisco, California. Genentech contacted BitSpark about building a web-based application that facilitiates the movement of data from molecule design to the manufacturing floor. The application interfaces with a number of other internal Genentech systems, including SAP, and POMSnet by Honeywell. Through a highly iterative and interactive development process, we were able to build an enterprise application that exceeded expectations. Now in the production, the application has reduced the overall timeline of manufacturing data collection from 5.5 to 3.5 months. There are plans to not only increase the scope of this application, but to build similar applications to help Genentech streamline a variety of business processes.
